How to give a valid rent increase notice in New Brunswick
In New Brunswick a rent increase needs at least six months’ written notice. It can happen only once in a 12-month period, and never in the tenant’s first year. The increase is capped at 3%. The notice should be a separate, signed document that states the current rent, the new rent, and the date the increase takes effect.
The tenant can ask the Tenant and Landlord Relations Office to review the increase within 60 days of receiving it. Keep a copy of the notice and a record of how you delivered it.
