How much can my landlord raise the rent in New Brunswick?

For tenants

If you get a notice, you have three options. You can accept it, give notice and move out, or ask the Tenant and Landlord Relations Office to review it within 60 days of getting the notice. The cap is 3%, maintained for the 2027 calendar year, with the next review in May 2027.

For landlords

You can raise the rent once in any 12-month period, by no more than 3%, and never in the first year of a tenancy. Put it in writing and give at least six months' notice before the new rent starts. For major renovations you can apply to the Office for an above-cap increase.
